Phoebus
Phoebus HISTORY: The waterfront community of Phoebus has a rich history dating back to the early 1600's. Located near Fort Monroe, the area grew following the Civil War to become the home of veteran soldiers, freed slaves, and new businessmen. Incorporated in 1900, the town was named for its most prominent citizen - Harrison Phoebus. Although Phoebus merged with the City of Hampton in 1952, it still retains much of its small town charm.
