Tyler-Seldendale HISTORY: The Tyler-Seldendale Neighborhood was named after the John Tyler Elementary School; Where a Lifetime of Success Begins. He was the first Vice President to be elevated to the office of President by the death of his predecessor becoming the 10th President. The name "Selden" for maybe more than one hundred fifty years was spelled "Selkenden". The spelling was shortened to "Selden" during the latter part of the reign of Henry the VIII of England. The Selden-Sinclair Family of Virginia was well known, almost like celebrities. They were known for their happy and friendly lifestyle in the new world. They demanded freedom, honesty and a simple way of life. They enjoy hunting, good horses and outdoor life. There were several generations of the Selden-Sinclair Family. Several of them were born in "Doolittle Farm" Hampton Virginia in the early 1900's. Attended and graduated from Hampton City Schools and William and Mary College. Occupation: Farmers and Dairyman.
